The Confederate War Memorial Chapel was built as a memorial to the soldiers who died on the Confederate side during the Civil War. Right in front, very unassumingly, sits a cannon with a plaque that reads “One of the guns used in the defence of Fort Sumter.” So, basically, a piece of U.S. history is sitting right in front of it, surrounded by shrubs. It’s a pretty neat thing. The chapel is behing the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
